Spring Has Sprung
(April 4, 2005)

Where's Flapper? This Spring, Flapper & Georgie love to sit under the rhododendron. Can you see them?

Flapper, why don't you help me with this photoshoot of the garden & yard.
Can you hold on to my lens cap for me?

"Thith doetn't taste vethy gooth."

Georgie is up to SEVEN eggs now. The smaller, darker eggs are hard-boiled chicken eggs.
I'm trying to get Georgie to stop laying 'em and start warming 'em.
(That's 14 eggs total: 7 sent to Pennsylvania to hopefully hatch, and 7 right here in the nest)

Spring means gardening and planting. Why don't we plant some good food for you guys?

Let's start with a salad bar, right outside of your pen.

"Salad would be good. I need to shed some of this belly fat."

Then we'll plant some super-tough cacti near the pond. Plants so strong even YOU can't eat 'em, Georgie!

"We'll see about that."

Over in this planter, we'll put some baby organic spinach and some kale. That should be tasty for you two.

Let's see what else is growing in the yard!

There are wallflowers and some spirally thing growing in the frog planter.

The cherry tree is in full bloom.

These things I thought were weeds are blooming too.
Turns out they are Lunaria biennis, "Honesty" or "Money Plant."

There are panzies planted in the bricks by the driveway.

This other kind of whatever tree is blooming too.
I've found out now it's an ornamental cherry tree.

And finally, this fancy guy. Not sure what he is, but he's a beautiful, bright orange color.
Found out he is an Azalea (a type of Rhododendron).

"Mmmm. Spring tastes good!" (Flapper is munching on Heuchera).

Special thanks to Liz Katz for the plant name updates!

In other news...

The cats have decided to sleep straight through spring.

Except for Meelee, who got up for a drink of water.
Happy sleeping, guys!

Flapper would like to say "hi there" to his new bunny friend, Birthday.
Birthday the bunny was a present for Hattie's well, birthday.
He is a Sandy Flemish Giant. If you have a bunny rabbit and are wondering
how to talk to him, check out this cool bunny language page.

:: stay tuned ::
