You are SO grounded!

Oh man, this is NOT how I want to start my morning. I haven't even had coffee yet! I was in fact missing TWO ducks on Monday evening, but I didn't see this note until Tuesday. Bingo Baloo and Miss Murphy were missing, and they've never flown out of the yard before. But Monday evening I guess they decided to try it. I knew they weren't hurt, because Flapper was just fine, and he's too fat to fly. So I wasn't concerned that they'd been attacked by a predator. I just knew they'd have trouble finding their way back home. |

Here's a map of where Bingo Baloo wandered around. You can see she's home on Monday evening, then away, up a hill in the yards behind my house by Tuesday. I herded her out of 3 neigbhors' yards early Tuesday and coaxed her back in the yard. But Miss Murphy was no where to be found. |

So I made a "lost duck" sign and hung them on every telephone poll for blocks and blocks. Abby was able to say "actually, I do!" (How many people can say that?) |

This is a map of Miss Murphy's flight area while she was missing for 24 hours. The area around the HOME is Bingo Baloo's roaming area. As you can see, Miss Murphy really gets around. She covered a 9 block x 3 block area! I was not certain I'd get her back. But after hanging up the "LOST DUCK" signs, I got a call almost immediately. 8 or more people were surrounding her in a driveway near a park. She was just standing there for the longest time, they said. All those people standing there helped me try to catch her for the next 20 minutes, including a man who dove into a blackberry bush to finally get her. She was happy to be home. |

Flapper & Georgie, now that the girls are back, I'm going to need your help keeping them in line.
I'm going to clip their primary flight feathers on one wing a bit, so they don't take off again, but can
you two keep an eye on them and make sure they don't get out of line again?

"How's this?"
Ha ha ha! WOW Flapper! You do great work! Thanks!

They are certainly in line now. Even Kozmo Kirby is in line, and he didn't do anything wrong.

"I think my work here is done."
Yes it is, Flapper. Great work, kid.

"He's bossy by nature, so he's naturally gifted at keeping them in line."

Bingo Baloo and Miss Murphy are now safely back home with Kozmo Kirby.
Special thanks to the many neighbors and strangers who helped with their return!
:: stay tuned ::
