"What's up, Mom?"

Well, I want you guys to be on your best behavior because we have a visitor coming to see you.

"Doth that mean I can't talk wif my mouth full?"

Yes, Flapper. That would be a good start. And I want you all to have some manners.

"Manners?"

"Do manners taste like lettuces? Or are they more like peas? Tomatoes?"

Well, Kozmo, manners aren't food. They are the ways you behave when guests are around.

"I don't get it. You can't eat them? But you want us to have some?"

That's right, Kozmo. "Have some manners" means be good and don't get into trouble while the guest is here. Like don't eat dirt out of the planters, for instance. Do you understand?

"I understand. It means to say please and thank you, right?"

That's right, Malley. And maybe not blow snot out of your nose holes so loudly.

"Sorry, Mom."

"Let's practice our manners. Phoebe? Would you swim in the pool with me, please?"

"Oh no, I don't think so, Kozmo. But thank you."

"You're stuck up, Phoebe."

KOZMO! That is not polite OR good manners!

"Fine. I'll swim by myself, thank you very much. But she is kind of stuck up."

Sigh.

"Don't worry, Mom. I'll have some manners."

Thank you. I knew I could count on you, Flapper.

"I still think I prefer lettuces though."
