The Treats Are Broken! The Treats Are Broken!
(September 16, 2007)

"It's not true, is it?"
WHAT'S not true, Petunia?

"It's true. Isn't it? Just tell me. I can take it. NO WAIT, I can't take it!"

What is Petunia talking about, Chewy?
"We have a really serious problem here, Mom."
What's the problem, Chewy?

"They're not working! The treats are broken!"

"IS HE SERIOUS?"

"WHAAATT!????!@#%*!"

"Chewy? You'd better be joking!"

"I would never, ever joke about something as SERIOUS as treats, Georgie."

"They're STILL broken. See? Oh no! Mom? Can you fix them? They're flat and, and I can't eat them. THEY'RE BROKEN!"

"I think I'm getting weak from lack of treats. I'd better sit down."

"Oh yeah. That's better."

"Why are you laughing, Mom? This is SERIOUS!"

"What are we going to do? Do you think Mom can fix them?"

"What are you sitting there for, Kozmo?"
"If the treats get fixed, I want to be the first in line."

Chewy?
"Yeah, Mom?"
Those treats aren't broken. That bag of peas is just... empty. I can get a new bag from inside the house. That bag just has a picture of peas on it. They're not broken peas. It's just a picture of peas.

"You mean it was just an empty bag?"
Yep.

"And the treats aren't broken?"
That's right, O'Malley.

"Hooray for treats!"

"I knew you could fix them, Mom! You really have another bag in the house, right?"
Yes I do, Chewy.

"Could you go get it so I can see it?"
Sure, Chewy. Treats for everyone.

"Thank you for making more treats, house!"
Well the house doesn't really make the treats, O'Malley. Oh nevermind.

"Hold on tight, belly. Treats are on the way!"

"My belly is SO ready! Bring on the treats!"

"Mmmmm delicious."

"I was really scared about the broken treats."

"But they're so tasty I forgot all my worries!"

"Sorry for the scare, belly. It's okay now. That's right. Everything's okay."

"I thank you, and... my belly thanks you."
You're very welcome, Georgie.

"That was a close call, huh Mom?"
Well... not exactly. But it's okay now, Chewy.

"I know! I'm so happy!"

Okay kids. Have a good day.
"Thanks, Mom. And thanks again for fixing the treats."
[Sigh] You're welcome, Chewy.

In other news...

In August, Flapper had to take a trip to the vet for a personal problem.

"I fell for it again! This is NOT the McDonald's drive-thru!"
Flapper is doing much better now though, after a visit to the veterinarian.

Also in August, Flapper & family had visitors! Fellow duck friends Todd & Janis dropped by to talk and visit with the flock. Here Todd holds Kozmo (I still can't believe Kozzy let him pick him up) and Janis holds Chewy.

Todd & Flapper became fast friends.

And Janis & Chewy had a lot to talk about. Special quacks go out to them and their feathered friends Dewey & Daisy. Thanks for visiting!

The crows who frequent our yard welcomed three baby crows into their family. Congratulations, crow family.

Here's one of the new fledgling crows balancing on a wire. You can tell baby crows from adults because they're smaller, have blue eyes and the edges of their beaks are pink. (They also fluff their wings out and gape for food nearly all the time.)

Flapper's #1 Fan, Catie, holds this cute duckling at the Duck Rescue Network national conference, held in Charlotte, NC on August 17-19th. I was there and it was great. You can see video footage and photographs of the conference at http://www.duckrescuenetwork.org

O'Malley, whose crest was once big and thick, is currently molting and getting all new feathers. So his crest has fallen out and looks pathetic. No worries though... he's already growing in a new crest that should be back up in no time. We just wanted to share his crestfallen photo. Now we know where the term "crestfallen" comes from, first hand.

Over the summer we made a movie of Chewy's Big-Boy Quack. You can view it here.

Lastly, Flapper's human (and webmaster of this here website) was accepted into the University of Washington's Graduate School starting this fall. (Photo above is Parrington Hall on the UW campus). She'll be working towards an Executive Masters of Public Administration—the executive part means her school schedule allows her to keep her day job.

So Flapper website updates may be a bit sporadic while she juggles the first semester. But rest assured, Flapper cam will always be online and we'll always try to update as often as possible. Now where's the frat party?
