stretching and lounging
Baby foster duck stretches out while lounging in the yard on a Saturday afternoon. After the duckling’s first bath, I noticed it has a sore on its chest. Looking closely tonight, there are a few other areas that look like scratches on her belly and a sore right on the vent. This duckling will go back to the vet tomorrow for a better check-up and maybe some antibiotics. It’s too bad we didn’t notice the injuries earlier. Hopefully she’ll be okay. She was likely injured before being taken to the PAWS wildlife center. Maybe by a house cat.

She seems to be doing okay though, and hopefully the injuries are already well on their way to healing. We’ll post an update after the vet visit on Sunday.
UPDATE: Little duckling is on some clavamox antibiotics for the spot that could be a puncture wound. The vent scab has actually fallen off so that looks all healed. After 5-days of antibiotics, little duckling will hopefully be good to go.

Awww – Cupcake I hope you feel better! Mommy said you are a little girl duck. Maybe you should snudge close to Mr. Flapper and charm his socks off so he will protect you with his big wings and won’t let you leave.
i wish you would keep cupcake it would be an great duck for flapper
I second what Pansy said — wiggle your way into Flapper’s heart. He’ll insist that you stay, and celebrities tend to get what they want.
Glad you’re on the mend, Cupcake.
It’s literally impossible to save them all and definitely impractical to keep them all. Fostering and being able to keep them until the right forever home comes along isn’t easy. It’s tough to say goodbye. So I could use your support and understanding. The only other alternative is to not help them at all. But I cannot keep them. I’ve helped foster or place more than 20 domestic ducks in the past 2 years (many of my friends place hundreds a year) and couldn’t possibly keep them all. Please try to understand it’s for the best for both my family and the duckling.
I can take them in, raise and foster them, make sure they are not too imprinted on humans and that they learn how to be a duck, and then make sure they have the safest long-term forever home I can find for them. But I cannot keep them. Maybe someday we’ll win the lottery and start a duck sanctuary for all ducks. Until then, this is the best I can do.
ducks are good friends for anyone but what your doing is great saving the little ones for good safe homes
