I was going to tune out as soon as I heard that he was a duck hunter, but was hopeful that having a duck would change his attitude. Not so. He sees how intelligent and special ducks are, but still considers them gun fodder? One duck can be exempt simply because it’s his, but others are disposable? This kind of illogic kills me.
I’m sorry for the mini-rant, Tiff. I know you put this up just to make us smile. The scenes with Frank are very cute.

I wish I could go to work with my duck. Tiff – any job openings in your office?
Dawn is right – it’s baffling how he could still hunt ducks after he gets attached to one. He said he doesn’t consider Frank a duck. Other hunters do, man — and they would shoot Frank just like any other duck in a heartbeat. Maybe when that happens, his self-righteousness would subside.

I am with everyone else. How can you consider this Duck your pet, a member of your family and go out and kill his bretheren? It totally does not make sense to me!

I thought this was adorable and passed it on. While he considers himself to be a hunter, the fact of the matter is – he IS riding around with a duck in his truck.
Sorry to those offended, – I do not hunt and don’t like it myself, but if it were not for hunters our marshes and wetlands and prime waterfowl breeding sites would have been long gone or nearly gone. No doubt some species of ducks that are struggling would have been gone by now. It was hunters who realized that if “they” and others didn’t preserve the land and ducks could not survive.
John Audubon killed hundreds and hundreds of thousands of birds to draw them – he in the end saw the light – and began to be an advocate for birds vs killing them ( and sometimes in cruel ways) to draw them.
So maybe — the change starts with one man and his duck?
Sorry Tiff!

I bet every one of you commenting that this guy is a hypocrite eats chicken.
Ummm… no Doug, Dawn and I don’t eat chicken or any animal products whatsoever. There are any number of reasons for this decision, and out of respect to you, I shall not go into them. We firmly believe in compassion towards animals and while I am stymied how he could reconcile being a hunter and have his prey as a pet, he’s doing a good thing.
I would caution you not to make such generalizations. I would hope that you would not want to start a flame war. So far the comments here haven’t been rather forceful but negative towards the hunter nonetheless. While you were rather cavalier about your statement, if you want to know more about our decisions to eschew animal products, I would be more than happy to engage you in an intelligent conversation.
Alright, since no one else has said it, I guess I’ll have to:
I’m a-standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It’s a duck, mah lord, in a flat bed Ford
Slowing down to take a quack at me.

Im a Vegan Doug.
I loved the clip, dont get me wrong. Frank is well taken care of, he is the head of the household as it seems and apparently very opinionated.:) It just seemed a bit odd to me to hunt the very type of creature you have sitting next to you on a daily basis.
I do agree with Kim, although I did not know that about Audubon!
here’s our guy Marvin (RIP). He and his womens had a falling out because they thought it was more important to set on their eggs and not pay attention to him. So he thought he’d live the people life.
He visited us indoors every day for over a month.
I have no comments on the hunting aspect. It’s a fact of life.

I really enjoyed the clip. While hunting is not my thing, Ducks Unlimited has done amazing work preserving wetlands. I find the trucker perplexing, but not more so nor more hypocritical than any given human… about something, whether we know it or not.
The best of us try to improve our hypocritical behaviors when we notice them. And that’s my pronouncement from the soapbox for the morning.

I smiled and laughed all the way through this video. what a riot. Ducks can be so funny. Most guys have a dog in there truck riding with them. Hopefully the guy will give up duck hunting. and soon…..
Sigh…great clip, but I’m with the rest of you in being shocked that he still kills other ducks. Doesn’t he realize that Frank isn’t unusual? ALL ducks have the capability for such love and personality. Oh well. At least he takes care of Frank.
Oh yeah, and I’m vegan as well.

wow. this was great! thank you for posting this video! i loved what the guy said:
“maybe if everyone had a duck in their life, we wouldn’t all be so mad at each other.”
“i dont think of him as a duck. i think of him as a friend.”
