Lucky goose gets a kiss

In a Kalamazoo, Michigan cemetary, this Canada goose was spotted with a plastic bottle caught on its head.

Gazette staff photographer Jill McLane Baker called Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement, and Officer Mark Vanderberg arrived.

After a brief chase…

Officer Vanderberg caught the goose and removed the plastic bottle. The goose had a few ruffled feathers, but was otherwise unharmed.

The officer kissed the goose on the head and let it go.

“Blech. Human cooties.”
I was impressed that the officer took the time to kiss the goose goodbye. What a nice animal services officer. He’s a good egg.

I’m surprised he was able to catch the goose! My God, they can go, and they can make O’Malley look like a wimp when it comes to wing wrestling! (At 13 pounds, O’Malley is NO wimp.) This is a great story, thanks for sharing!
Shows that some people really do care!
That’s awesome!
The kiss was nice, but a meal and something to drink would have been more helpful for this bird’s recuperation after time in the bottle. Big karma points to the photographer for noticing, calling, and sticking around to make sure good things happened!
From the looks of things, Officer Vanderburg’s duty belt is pulling hazard pay, but I’ll buy a drink for any man who: a) cares about Canada Geese, b) can outrun a frazzled Canada Goose, and c) gives it a kiss.*
*offer void outside of Kalamazoo County Animal Services & Enforcement.
What a mensch!
silly goose
Pringles says if he wasnt a boy he might marry that man! Anyone who loves geese is Pringles friend.
Hey Pringles just had a thought, if that goose is really a goose (girl) Pringles could marry her. I have two wives already whats one more?
I’m glad you posted this. Thank you officer, you are a good man. My faith in humanity is on the rise again;-)
Poor bird, s/he must have felt so scared and in panic.
I’m glad the goose didn’t get injured in the process of removing the bottle, you can clearly see how big and strong these geese are, and how unwillingly they cooperate.
Makes me feel a little less guilty about injuring my Rudie.
This really makes ones day. I’m so glad he was able to catch that silly goose. Better than having to catch a skunk that has his head caught in a jar. LOL
Great story and the kiss part is the best!
is officer vanderberg married?
i only date men who are not adverse to goose-kissing.
what a great story! it’s wonderful hearing happy stuff like this. thank gooseness these people helped out that silly birdie!
i love the ‘chase’ pic. lol. catching a goose must not be an easy feat! kudos!
Ahh.. just what I needed to help restore my faith in people. I’m having a hard time being optimistic about the future (economy, jobs, etc), but this made me smile!
That first pic was so upsetting, I almost cried. People like officer Vanderberg are very rare.
He must have awesome cardio, btw, to be able to outrun a goose.
Wow, that’s fantastic. I wonder if I can find his address to send him a Good Egg Award? I love the kiss!
I just keep looking at this and laughing and laughing. It’s so sweet.
Poor goosey! Good human!
Aw how sweet!
