Simon the Massive Tabby

simon
Simon and Meelee both went to the vet this evening for a check-up. We wanted to see how they were doing since we lost Hodjee last month so quickly.

Simon was diagnosed with being EXTREMELY LARGE. He weighs 18lbs 15oz and is now on a diet. I had no idea he had gotten that big. Oy! They don’t think the lumps he has are tumors from a bad vaccine like I’d been told years ago.

meelee
Meelee is a tiny girl, and always has been. But she’s getting old, so her bloodwork was checked. We’ll get blood results on both of them on Friday afternoon. Meelee may have hyperthyroidism or the beginnings of kidney disease, both of which would be treatable.

Simon just needs to lay off the kibble.

They resented being taken out into the cruel world tonight, but are happy to be home safe and sound.

Rouba the Therapy Duck

Our friend MJ has a therapy duck named Peepers, shown in the video above. She also has a duck named Rouba. Unfortunately in the past two weeks, Rouba ate several loose coins left around the house, and suffered terrible metal toxic poisoning as a result.

Rouba
Rouba was at death’s door but got her strength back long-enough to undergo endoscopy surgery to remove the stack of coins. She is slowly recovering, but now MJ is left with a veterinary bill she needs help paying. UPDATE: THE BILLS ARE PAID IN FULL! NO MORE DONATIONS NEEDED. THANK YOU!

Read MJ & Rouba’s Diary

Along the right-hand column of that link above, you can click the dated entries to learn more about how Rouba is doing after her surgery. So far so good!

watch and wait

wait
O’Malley’s blood work was good, so we’ll just watch that bump/lump and make sure it doesn’t change or grow.

I’m not sure I’ll make fun of his neck fat just yet… but maybe if it doesn’t change in a month. THEN we can make fun of him.

Flapper’s surgeon was the one who called us with the results, as he is the main vet who works Mondays. He also asked how Flapper is doing with his cloaca issues, so we’re just about to send him a photo of Flapper’s butt. Flapper’s butt won’t ever be like it once was, but we think he’s doing just fine.

We’ll spare you the butt photo, but knew you’d find it amusing.

O’Malley to the Vet

Hey Malley.
what
“What’s up, Mom?”

I want to take you to the vet today.
no
“No way, lady. No chance.”

You’ve got this bump on your neck and I want them to take a look at it.
bump

It’s not a sore and the skin looks fine, but I don’t remember it being there last month.
spot

“I think it’s fine. Let’s leave it alone.”
fine
No, O’Malley. We need to have the vet check it out.

thinknig
“I’m thinking about it.”

“Okay I will go, but I want to take a bath first.”
go
That sounds reasonable, O’Malley. Go ahead and swim while I get the carrier ready.

“Thanks, Mom.”
swim

“Whee!”
whee

swimming low

splash

pose
“Okay I’m almost ready.”

wings
“Let’s go.”

drive
“I’ll drive.”

Oh I think I’ll drive, O’Malley. But thanks for the offer.

I was really worried when I noticed a lump on O’Malley’s neck yesterday. It doesn’t have an open sore anywhere and it also doesn’t look infected, but it wasn’t there a few weeks ago. The vet felt it and couldn’t see anything to biopsy. She said it felt like fatty skin, nothing more. O’Malley had blood work done and we’ll have those results on Monday afternoon. The vet thinks it’s just an area of thickened skin or fat. O’Malley is acting normally and eating and drinking just fine. We’ll post more as soon as we have his blood results.

We hope it’s just a new patch of fat. Not only would it be great for O’Malley to be just fine, but it would also be amusing for him to have neck fat. We would enjoy making fun of his neck fat since he scared us with this vet visit. So keep your fingers crossed for O’Fatty. I mean O’Malley.

By the way, he weighs 6.14kg which is 13.5lbs! That’s a BIG ducky (all muscle, right buddy?)
fat
“I heard that!”
