Random Quacks

High five, Sam. Oh I see… you’re just scratching your face.

Sam is doing great these days. His feathers have grown back very well, except his green head grew back more blonde. Who knew?

Lily is doing well, too. She will go back to the vet on Saturday for a recheck. Her feathers are not growing back as quickly as Sam’s did, so we want to make sure her infection is gone and she’s gaining weight. Overall I think she’s pretty good though.

In this photo, Lily is wet after a swim in the pool, and you can really see how many feathers she is still missing.

“Do I get extra treats for going to the vet?”
You know it, Lily. Anything for you, sweet girl.

Sam really likes to hang out with Flapper these days, but Flapper isn’t always sure he feels the same way.

One of Flapper’s favorite things to do is keep Sam OUT of the pool.
“STAY OUT, Sam.”

Ducks are pretty funny that way. When one of them gets mad, they tend to pass it on.

Here Sam takes out his frustrations on Lily. Then Lily takes them out on… me.

Sam goes around and around the pool, waiting for Flapper to give in and let him swim.

Sometimes he tries to sneak up on Flapper, but Flapper is always ready.

Luckily for Chewy, since Flapper has decided Sam isn’t allowed in the pool, he has started sharing his pool with Chewy.

This makes Chewy Magooey VERY happy!

“I love to swim.”
I know you do, pretty freckle face.

The ducks just spent their first full work-week in the aviary, and they seem to really love it.

Lily and Petunia both spend time looking for good nesting spots and hunting for bugs.

The boys tend to spend their time in the pools or napping.

“We like the aviary.”
Glad to hear it, Choo Choo.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
P.S. Flapper attended his second demonstration against foie gras tonight. He did very well and enjoyed it quite a bit. I will have to remember NOT to feed him right before we go out in public though. He managed to stink up the sidewalk like a champ. Thanks again to all the NARN.org demonstrators who spend their Friday nights helping to end animal cruelty.

is it time for a new pool?
Nick: There are actually two pools, and Sam gets plenty of pool time. I just caught these photos of him being impatient about waiting his turn. He really does get to swim a lot though. And he has his very own pool all night long.
You’ve got your own wonderful aviary…petting zoo…in your own backyard. These guys certainly have it made. They are HOME…home where they belong and where they are safe. Safe from everyone and anything who might want to cause them harm.
It is so nice seeing them…in their own environment….creating their own little territory.
I agree…another little pool or two would be fun. They’d love it.
You do such a great job, Tiff. You care…your heart is big as the sky.
There are two pools in the big aviary, three more pools in the night pens, and two extra baby pools for when they’re roaming the yard. There really are enough pools, I promise. Sam gets lots of swim time. He just doesn’t like to take turns.
Oh man, great pictures and stories!!!
this update makes me soooo happy!
I love your pictures and descriptions. You’ve got a real talent for putting that all together in such a charming way. And I glad everything went well at the demonstration. We have a lot of nuts down here in Florida and sometimes we even have counter-demonstrators.
What a happy update! Good to hear and see that all members of the Flapper family are enjoying their new and safe playpen! Ducks like to sqaubble it’s their nature, happens here on a dayly basis too, one moment they have a dispute the next moment they nap side by side. I’m sorry Lily’s feathers aren’t growing back yet, maybe she’s waiting for molt. She does look great and happy and sweet.
Sam has spirit, that’s good, he needs it with all these guys around.
Where’s O’ Malley and Petuina? (they must be in their own partition of the aviary)
I’ve been quite busy past week so I didn’t log on to Flappercam, I need to think about it next week, would love to see the kids hanging in their new grounds.
Wonderful pictures and a nice update:-)
You need to do another Flapper kid day!
Btw, the kiddies and I are going to stop by SI next week since we’re having Steve D. autograph some Ella books.
Oh that was a great post! They are all just so beautiful! I love being let in on their shenanigans.
I just want to hug and kiss them all (that’s of course, if they would let me)
Chewy is a secret casanova! Look at that picture of him standing up and flapping! At once he looks confused and as if he’s trying to say ‘Ladies, please, one at a time.’
I heart Chewey!
Perhaps Sam thought that he’d go for a new look since he’s got a new life?
It’s great to see them enjoying the new aviary!
What an excellent update! Chewy is looking fantastic – so glad he’s moved up a notch.
All those pools yet Sam HAS to swim in the one that Flapper is using. It’s so interesting how they jostle for position. You do such an excellent job of providing them lots of options.
Nice to see Lily enjoying herself so much. Hope the vet visit goes well. Do the girls interact or pretty much ignore each other?
I don’t usually go for blonde guys, but I’ll make an exception in Sam’s case. Quite a looker.
Best pix of ChooChoo ever! Look at that sweet freckle-puss.
