Happy Fowlentine’s Day

It’s been a lazy weekend around here. Flapper and Chewy have been napping…

…and watching the birds go by. What kind of bird was it, Chewy?
“Just a crow. Not a hawk.”

Petunia and O’Malley have enjoyed hunting for bugs, even though it has been way too rainy.

Olivia is an expert bug hunter.

Racquel is too.

But both of them would prefer a little less rain.

“Blech, rain.” I know, Racquel. Keep preening and maybe the rain will stop soon.

Chewy is also an expert bug hunter, and he especially enjoys looking for bugs in mud puddles. So the rain is okay by him.

Flapper prefers to sit and preen…

…and wait for the bugs to come to him.
We hope you had a good Fowlentine’s Day. Flapper got some granola treats and some extra lap time. O’Malley skipped the granola but enjoyed his lap time, too.
In other news, Flapper unfortunately still isn’t feeling great. He has had trouble now and then since his surgery back in August 2008. He improved for a few days and seemed good yesterday, but today he is in pain. We hope we can get him comfortable again and hope he doesn’t need surgery. There really aren’t many duck surgeons out there, so we’d like to avoid that at all costs. Hopefully he can just have clean-up with an endoscope and not full surgery. We’ll keep you posted. I really, really hate seeing him uncomfortable.

Sweet post of your Fowlentine’s day;-) The kids look well and happy, inspite of the rain (but it beats frost and snow!). Sorry to hear Flapper isn’t feeling too well, I’ve been wondering how we was getting on with his new medication. I’m sorry his behind is still giving you cause for concern, it’s hard to see our sweeties in pain.
I’ve kept Snuggles (and Sophie) penned all this Winter, his bummed leg isn’t any good on ice and snow, but he’s doing very well with it. Once the temperatures rise and the yard is green again I’ll release him, I’m sure he’s ready for it.
Best wishes for Flapper, I hope he won’t need surgery, have you considered natural remedies?
We hate seeing Flap in pain too. It’s always hard when one of our pets is having a hard time. Like you said, there aren’t many duck surgeons. I’m glad there have been enough bugs to go around to everyone. Raquel looks like she would hate the rain. It doesn’t do much for her fur, i mean feathers.
Happy late Fowlentine’s!
Feel better Mr.Flapper <3
Silly Human, You might want your vet to consult with Dr. Brian Speer @ The Medical Center for Birds in Oakley CA. He may have some thoughts on Flapper’s problem. He is a duck surgeon as are his other two associates. Hope Flapper is feeling better soon
We know all about him, Abby. We’re trying to avoid surgery as no one thinks it will really help.
Aww, sorry to hear there are more problems, Tiff. Poor Flap, it’s just no fair sometimes.
