New Blog Look

new look
You may notice the blog has a NEW LOOK! This was an accident. Our hosting service Yahoo! upgraded the blog software automatically, making our old blog theme obsolete. We lost all our pages and are still rebuilding those, but all the posts are still here (thankfully).

Hope you like the unexpected, new look!

The Showering Cat

Simon wants to say for the record he thinks this behavior is wrong. Very wrong. He cannot understand it at all. We think it is cute though. Very cute. Maybe the kitty is part duck?

Video: The Parrot & People Paradox

Thanks to Mira Tweti for helping this issue get the attention it deserves. My favorite quote: “What you’ve got is a 3-year-old running around the house with a can opener on its face. And a megaphone.”

A Note about Fostering

It’s literally impossible for me to save them all, and definitely impractical for me to keep all the ducks, clucks and geese who need forever homes. Fostering and being able to keep them until the right forever home comes along isn’t easy. It’s tough to say goodbye. So I could use your support and understanding. The only other alternative is to not help them at all. But I cannot keep them. Not this one and not the next one. I’ve helped foster or place more than 20 domestic ducks in the past 2 years (many of my friends place hundreds a year) and couldn’t possibly keep them all. Please try to understand it’s for the best for both my family and the rescues.

I can take them in, pay for their medical care, raise and foster them, make sure they are not too imprinted on humans and that they learn how to be a duck, cluck or goose, and then make sure they have the safest long-term forever home I can find for them. But I cannot keep them.

Maybe someday we’ll win the lottery and start a sanctuary for all ducks, clucks and geese. Until then, this is the best I can do.

Thanks for understanding.

Galoshes

This is just about the cutest thing ever!
galoshes
A facebook friend just bought this for her house. Super cute! I think Choo Choo would love these for playing in the mud. The boots would have to be striped, of course.

Pet the Kitty

This cockatoo makes a pretty good scratcher. Still… there’s something about him. Not sure I trust him 100%. Super sweet video of a cockatoo and kitten.

Book Recommendation

wesley the owl
“The Way of the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and his Girl” by Stacey O’Brien is what I’m reading right now. I just started it tonight, but already think I should recommend it to all Flapper fans. Stacey writes about her 19-year relationship with Wesley. Let me read you one bit from the first few pages:

“…owls mate for life, and when an owl’s mate dies, he doesn’t necessarily go out and find another partner. Instead, he might turn his head to face the tree on which he’s sitting and stare fixedly in a deep depression until he dies. Such profound grief is indicative of how passionately owls can feel and how devoted they are to their mates. This is the Way of the Owl.”

I love this book already.

Special thanks to Aunt Sharon & Uncle Sid for sending me the OC Register newspaper article about this book.
