Flapper Visits the Vet

Hey, Flapper. How’s your tail?

“It’s pretty cute, don’t you think?”
belly

Ha ha, yes. It is cute. But that’s not what I meant. Let’s go see what Dr. Ford thinks about your tail, okay?
hmm
“Hmm… can we get french fries, too?”

You got it, Flapper. It’s a deal.

“Hot diggity. Let’s motor, Mom.”

Flapper went to the vet today to see how his cloaca/vent are doing after his surgery in August. He is still having some issues, and unfortunately, he always will. But he doesn’t have any infection and seems to be doing okay overall. His minor irritation is hopefully something we can manage for the long term. He is maintaining his weight and doesn’t seem to be in pain. He may always be slightly irritated by his vent, but it shouldn’t affect his quality of life.

French fries all around.

Flapper & family would like to wish heartfelt condolences to Pansy and Greg for the loss of their beautiful duck Quack Quack.
Quack Quack
Their special duck/kid Quack Quack lived to be 9-years and 18-days-old, which is really good for a ducky. Quack Quack is irreplaceable and will be sorely missed. All the best to Pansy and Greg during this difficult time. We’re so sorry for your loss.

Thanks

Thanks, originally uploaded by tifotter.

Kozmo thanked me for scratching all his head feathers tonight. He sits on my lap each evening and we scratch and fluff his head, cheeks, chin and neck. It seems to perk him up and I’ll bet it feels great. Now that his legs don’t work, he can’t do it himself. So I’m his scratch helper.

He is doing okay after his second biopsy. The wound was much bigger and will take longer to heal. But it’s healing. The results of his biopsy aren’t back yet. We know he has a huge mass, so I’m not quite sure if the results will matter at all. The vets didn’t sound very confident about being able to remove the mass. If they’re not confident, I’m not all that confident in letting them even try to remove it. Kozmo seems pain-free and happy-go-lucky, so that’s good enough for now.

When we get the biopsy results we’ll post another update.

Quacks,

Tiff

Happy Couple

Happy Couple, originally uploaded by tifotter.

Today I went to see Ms Bruiser, a beautiful pekin girl who we placed in a new forever home in early June. She and four other rescued ducks now live together in a great forever home. Ms Bruiser used to be very imprinted on humans and in fact had never seen another duck until she stayed at Flapper’s house for a few weeks in May. Now five weeks later… she knows she is a duck. It’s pretty cool to see her so well-adjusted and loving being a duck. She has a pekin boyfriend now who loves her dearly, and they are all doing great in their new forever home.

It was a little sad to see her less friendly with me, but it’s definitely for the best. She came over to see me very briefly, bit me, and let me pick her up and kiss her head. Then she went right back to her big boyfriend. It’s the perfect “Independence Day” because Ms Bruiser has truly learned to be a duck and not to depend on humans so much anymore. Happy Independence Day, Ms. Bruiser.

Hey Dad?
Kozzy

Yeah, Kozzy?
Flap
I just wanted to wish you a Happy Father’s Day, Dad.

That Kozzy… he’s a good boy.
flapping
He sure is, Flapper. And you’re a good Dad, too.

I picked some peonies for you.

And you can do whatever you want this afternoon.

Thanks. And thank you, Kozzy. I love you, son.
napper
I’m going to settle down for a good, long nap.

Ha ha that’s a great napping spot, Flapper. Sweet dreams.

And Happy Father’s Day to all good Dads.
