Hey Juno? Chewy? It’s time to say goodbye. Juno is going to her forever home today.

“Already? Okay let’s go!”

“Let’s get her!”
Juno didn’t seem to mind going to her forever home today, and Chewy didn’t seem to mind losing his “shadow” either. Fling and Thor were a little wary of the new girl, and decided to make sure she knew who was boss.

“I’m the boss, okay?”
Thor decided to give Juno a half-hearted hard time for a few minutes. Thor chased Juno around the pen slowly and lightly pecked at the back of her neck. Nothing too bad. Looks like a good sign!

“Are we all good then?”
After about 10 minutes of quacking and bossing Juno around, Thor decided they could all just be friends.

“Let’s eat!”
Then they all settled down to doodle together in the dirt, and make a mess of things like the expert mess-makers ducks are.

Thanks!
Special thanks to Erin and family for taking Juno into their home. They also gave me these great carved wooden ducks to add to my collection on the mantle. When I left, Juno was happily doodling in the mud and by the time I got home, Chewy was happily preening on the lawn. Both made the transition much better than I expected, though I expected they would do fine.
It’s a very happy ending, and a new beginning, for little Juno. Oh! I should note… Fling & Thor are both girls! I could tell from their quacking as soon as I heard them. So Juno is the newest addition to an all girl flock. Erin said she’d update us on how Juno is doing in the coming days and weeks. So when I get an update, I’ll share it on the blog.
Happy doodling, girls!
To give you an idea of Juno’s size… Fling and Thor are both smaller than Flapper. They’re not huge ducks. Juno is just tiny. She is about the size of a true wild mallard. I think she is probably a mallard/call mix duck, or… something else i just don’t know about. She’s definitley not a full-bred pekin.
